Living in Tatekawa [竪川に生きる], by YAMAMOTO Yōko

Wednesday February 28th, 2024 Screening (Saint-Denis)

Screening at the Écran de Saint-Denis on February 28th, 2024 (6:30 pm) followed by a Q&A with director YAMAMOTO Yōko. Theater address: 14 Passage de l’Aqueduc, 93200 Saint-Denis, subway stop: Basilique de Saint-Denis (ligne 13).

Synopsis

In 2012, a year before the 2020 Olympics were awarded to the city of Tokyo, I met a man who lived in a park in northeast Tokyo. He was mobilizing people against the eviction of the group of people living there. I asked him, “Why don’t you apply for Social Benefits?” He explained that he collected cans for a living and said: “If you want, come and see where we live.” The next day, I went there and felt I wanted to record their lives in a film.
